About Me

Hi! I'm a PhD student based in Glasgow, Scotland, UK from Portsmouth, England, UK.

I am a keen speedball player which a faster version of paintball than what you may have played in the woods. On weekends that I'm not shooting people with paintballs I enjoy going out exploring Scotland's wide range of landscapes, while geocaching. When I can I travel to different parts of the UK and Europe.

I have a wide range of music tastes from classic 90s pop to electronic dance music. Also recently been focusing on my fitness to help improve my speedball game. I used to play tenpin bowling at the competitive level but time always got in the way.

I also am president of the Glasgow University paintball society which is my second presidential role which beforehand setup the tenpin bowling society in the University of Exeter. I completed 2 coaching qualifications in tenpin bowling and also hold an assistant instructor qualification in scuba diving.

I'm sure I've missed lots of other things!

Academic Profile

Hi! I'm a PhD student at the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Photonic Integration & Advanced Data Storage (yes thats a bit of mouthful!). It's a collaboration between the University of Glasgow and Queen's University Belfast.

I am based at the University of Glasgow with Prof. Richard Hogg as my primary supervisor, researching Quantum Dot Semiconductor Lasers in Harsh Environments.

I started my academic journey at the University of Exeter, where I graduated with a first class honors in Computer Science with Electronic Engineering. My undergraduate dissertation was on Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) and other data storage techniques.

Through successful funding applications I have been able to visit several conferences in the UK and further afield. In early 2018 I presented at the SPIE Phontonics West in San Francisco for the first time. In late 2018 I presented at the JSAP Autumn Meeting in Nagoya, Japan which is part of a placement organised with the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).
